APOLLO 11 mission Luna Soil sample above,
this is the colour of the Moon.
Oxidisation has occurred
so this sample is somewhat more rusty
than it was on the Moon.

 The £10 and £20 pound notes are for colour balance,
The consistency is like dust from a vacuum cleaner and the colour similar to brick and cement dust.

This sample has also been cleaned of the fine particle's...
They are so fine that you could not only breathe them in but they could enter the blood stream!

approx 382kg were brought back apparently they have lost 150kg......

....and are looking for it....

I remember my father waking me to see the Launches
and watching the Landing and Exploration of the Moon.
To hold this was a special moment in my life.


I attended the "International Moon Conference" (24 & 25 sept 2007)
Lawrence had a Apollo 11 sample with him....

"the return of the first Apollo samples from the Moon played a major role in my research interests and funding. It was the mineralogy, petrology, and geochemistry of these unusual rocks from another world that excited us all. While being in the “back-room” at Johnson Space Center in December, 1972,during the Apollo 17 Mission, I was one of those who directly advised the astronauts on the Moon during their EVAs. Jack Schmitt, the only geologist to go to the Moon and the last person to step onto the Moon, and we subsequently became good friends, and he often visits UT."

Why you ask?
There were two planetary body's that collided one became the Earth and the rest formed the Moon.

This is what Space looks like...
most of the different coloured patches are galaxies and nebulas...
We are in the galaxy known as the 'Milky Way'
Think of a pizza and imagine a grain of salt about 1/3 of the way from the edge...
the grain of salt represents our Sun which is a star...
each of the patches you see in this photo contains millions of stars...
surrounded by planets...
Some where ... out there ... is another planet like Earth.

I thought of this idea in 2017 and have had a look around the internut but haven't found anyone else that has demonstrated it like this...
How to show the Earth and the Moon and the distance to scale between them that everyone can do...
May I ask that if you get the chance please set this up for those who have difficuilty with their sight... its tactile...
You will need...
A football or a basket ball
a tennis ball
an open area (at least 30foot)
optional .. some sticks to make tripods and a torch...

The ratio between a football or basketball and a tennis ball are fairly near scale.
So...
The Earth is about 24000 miles around its middle...
and the distance from the Earth to the Moon is about 240000 miles
which is 10 times the distance
now the practical bit
place both on the ground so that you can roll the football away from the tennis ball.
carefully roll the football 10 times in a straight line away from the tennis ball
... you could use sticks to hold them off the ground.
If its getting dark ... use a torch to explain the phases of the moon etc...
Here is Bella trying to work out what I am up to, this is a frequent occurance...
